We exploit a novel paradigm for S.E.L.F. (Simple, Efficient, Large-area, Fast) manufacturing of multiscale patterns and structures inspired by well-established and reliable precision machining techniques such as rolling, injection molding, pullout, pressing, indentation, forging, and even Electrical Discharge Machining. The straightforward and continuous process principles facilitate highly efficient and reproducible fabrication of diverse functional precision structures over large areas at a high speed. Key applications include but are not limited to display, electronic, and green-vehicle components, diffractive optical elements, flexible sensors, and anti-icing and metasurfaces.
